Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Assembly

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 8 pieces caramel candy
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the apple filling: In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add the peeled and finely chopped apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and bubbling, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the biscuit dough: Remove the refrigerated biscuit dough from the can and separate the biscuits. Slightly stretch each biscuit, then flatten it using your fingers, a rolling pin, or a tortilla press until it forms an even, thin round. Flattening helps the dough hold more filling and seal properly.
  4. Assemble the bombs: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple filling into the center of each flattened biscuit, then place one piece of caramel candy on top of the filling. Carefully bring the edges of the dough up and pinch tightly to completely seal the filling inside. Roll each sealed biscuit gently into a smooth ball shape.
  5. Arrange and add finishing touches: Place each filled dough ball seam side down in the greased baking dish. Brush the tops gently with melted butter to encourage browning during baking. Optionally, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the top of each for added sweetness and aroma.
  6. Bake to golden perfection: Transfer the dish to the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the dough balls are puffed and golden brown.
  7. Serve warm: Remove from the oven and carefully transfer the apple pie bombs to a serving platter. Serve warm, optionally with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Make sure to seal the edges of the dough balls tightly to prevent the caramel from oozing out during baking.
  • You can substitute caramel candies with chocolate or Nutella for a different flavor twist.
  • If you prefer a crispier crust, bake a few extra minutes but watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • Let the apple filling cool slightly before assembling so the dough doesn’t become too soft and difficult to handle.
