Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Filling

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (parsley, basil, thyme), chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt until evenly blended.
  2. Add wet ingredients and mix dough: Pour in warm water and olive oil, mixing until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the dough for filling: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Spread the filling: Evenly spread the minced garlic, chopped fresh herbs, and shredded cheese over the rolled-out dough.
  7. Roll and seal: Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, pinching the edges to seal the filling inside.
  8. Second rise: Place the rolled dough seam-side down into a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes until slightly puffed.
  9. Bake the bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
  10. Cool and serve: Remove the bread from the oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving to allow the flavors to set and prevent crumbling.

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs like parsley, basil, and thyme for the best aromatic flavor.
  • Feel free to substitute the cheese with your favorite type, such as mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
